Biography

Hanno Ulmer is Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Epicenter Innsbruck. He holds degrees in Business Administration, Economics and Social Sciences, and a habilitation in Biostatistics. His main responsibilities at the Medical University include statistical consulting of clinical research, teaching of medical students and his own research activities. His main research interests are in cardiovascular and cancer epidemiology. He has published extensively on the role of metabolic risk factors in chronic disease. His work is particularly associated with the Vorarlberg Health Monitoring and Promotion Programme (VHM&PP), one of the largest cohort studies in the world.

Hanno Ulmer chaired the Institute of Medical Statistics and Informatics from 2009 to 2024. He was President of the International Biometric Society, Austro-Swiss Region 2012-2013. He was the founding president of the Austrian Society of Epidemiology in 2014-2015. Additionally, Hanno Ulmer is currently the longest-serving active member of the Ethics Committee of the Medical University of Innsbruck.
