Study design
The Hiroshima-Shobara-Soryo Cohort (3SCO) is focusing on individuals with one or more than one cardiovascular risk factor and is based in Shobara, Japan. Elderly individuals living in the Shobara City Soryo Town and attending the Shobara City Soryo Clinic were enrolled in this study. Exclusion criteria were hepatic damage, history of coronary artery disease, stroke, congestive heart failure, renal failure, or malignancy. The principal aim of 3SCO was to study visit-to-visit blood pressure in elderly individuals at high risk of cardiovascular disease. This study was approved by the local medical ethics committee and all participants gave written informed consent.
